IN-HOUSE TRAINING COURSES
The Association, with the help of developing partners, developed the following series of courses that suit the specific needs of small and medium sized building and civil engineering contractors’ employees and engineering students that join the industry.
- Guide to submitting qualifying bids: This is a 3 day course that deals with qualifications and technical submission of a successful response to a tender.
- Strategic Pricing for Profit: - a 3 day course which starts where the first course ends. It in particular deals with principles of pricing and bidding to obtain new projects. Many contractors continue to produce ‘guesstimates’ – not estimates – of the project costs, so they either bid high and lose the contract or often even worse, get the work at a price which is below the cost and deliver at losses.
- Construction Site Management: This is also a 3 day course potentially applicable after a profitable contract has been won. This gives one planning skills and enables critical thinking on how one can make a company more profitable by improving productivity on site i.e ‘planning for profit’, scheduling of plants, materials and checking progress and making it happen on site. This course includes a 1 day site visit for handson training.
Past Trainings and beneficiaries
Between 2014 and 2016, UNABCEC under the Crossroads project delivered trainings on ‘Strategic Pricing for Profit’ and ‘Construction Site Management’ courses to over 257 participants in different regions of the country as shown in the table below in descending order of dates.

Trainers
The Association has a total of twenty-two (22) certified trainers who have undergone a ‘Generic Training of Trainers’ course that was conducted by an international expert trainer under Crossroads Program in April 2014 and have further undergone a series of top up trainings to assist in preparing and running seminars and workshops to the entire public. These trainers are construction professionals some of whom are owners or employees of construction firms engaged in actual construction.
